Welcome to Esbjerg - the city by the sea

The capital of southwest Jutland has, after only 100 years, become the fifth largest city (approx. 83,000 inhabitants) in the country – and is the metropolis of the entire region.

Here the unique rhythm of the tides and fresh air mingle with a modern city life, fun experiences and a host of fine sights and attractions.

Esbjerg’s museums are always worth a visit, offering experiences for the whole family. The Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet (Fisheries and Maritime Museum) is in an international class of its own. It illustrates the history of fishing and shipping. In the Fishing Harbour lies the former motorised lightship “Horns Rev”, which is now a floating museum. At Esbjerg Museum the history of the city and its local area is illustrated. At the Water Tower there are changing exhibitions – as well as a magnificent view out across the harbour and the city. – finally, mention should be Esbjerg Art Museum, which contains one of the country’s finest collections of contemporary Danish art.

There are plenty of attractions to delight visitors to Esbjerg, including

Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet (Fisheries and Maritime Museum)
Vandtårnet (The Water Tower)
Musikhuset (The performing arts centre Musikhuset Esbjerg)
Multihus Tobaksfabrikken

Esbjerg Kunstmuseum (Esbjerg Art Museum)
Sculpture “Man meets the Sea”
The altar decoration in Hjerting Kirke (The church of Hjerting)

Location was directly overlooking the sea in quite a peaceful small town. Staff were warm and friendly, plus free bicycle hire meant we could get around a little without using car. Breakfast had wide range of fresh offerings.
